NICK WARREN - Devil's Elbow (Max Cooper remix)

The master himself, Max Cooper, shared his thoughts with us on this production: "I went pretty minimal on this one, no hi-hats, and pretty much no drums actually, just a kick and much later into the track a snare comes in. There was something about the simple repetitive 2-note melody hits and chords I landed on that just seemed to work without needing anything much else, well hopefully it works for other people too and not just me. It's been going down really well in the clubs at least, it seems to make people clap for some reason, maybe because it's so simple and kick focused rhythmically, it's got a bit of a marching stomp feel."

DONATO DOZZY - Vaporware 07

Donato Dozzy's second appearance on Muziekbeer and this one might sound unexpected. Nothing dark this time around, instead Dozzy remixed an album called Bee Mask filled with extremely deep and skillfully crafted electronic ambient.

All the tracks on Plays Bee Mask are remixed from the original album Bee Mask from Chris Madak. The original plan was that Dozzy would only remix one track, but he ended up doing the entire album. Huge fan of the cover, nice, fruity and colorful for a change.

"Vaporware 07" is amazing and pressed in blue vinyl. All these hypnotic loops are constantly shifting yet they never make a sudden movement that might disrupt the atmosphere. One of the finest electronic albums released in 2013.

JUSTIN JAY - Static

Definitely didn't see that crazy groove coming, almost got blown off my feet because of all the static.

MAX COOPER live at We Love Space, Ibiza

.

Finally a new liveset from Max Cooper, a liveset with "Walls". Which is still one of the finest tracks I've heard this year, hence it being my first blogpost.

His set from Awakenings festival this year was the most recent one I listened to and Max slightly dissapointed me. I expected to hear "Walls" but instead you get a track with a broken beat (around 30:00 min.) and an emotional piano solo when I wanted something extreme, like "Walls". I was really curious as to see where Max fits that track into his sets and how it sounds in a liveset.

Which one do you favor?

APPLESCAL & RYAN DAVIS - Creatures

Ryan Davis and Applescal had one idea, a spontaneous session and recorded various versions of what they had in mind. Out of that unplanned session came a three track EP. They wanted others to catch up with the idea and create their own "Creature", so they organized a remix competition. The winner of this remix "Creature" competition will be released on Ryan Davis' label and gets a pretty cool analog synthesizer.  If you're interested, you can participate here. Ofcourse I've already looked at some of the remixes for you, and posted my favorites below. The rework done by Warmth is a perfect ten in my opinion.

Ryan Davis' quote sums up the track perfectly: "The summer is in its last days but we don't want it to leave. With this release we wanna stay with the light sunny days for a while and dream on in the warm season of the year." The track is filled with atmosphere but it never completely takes over control of the track. Except during the break, where the groove gets a little aggressive. I love how the way they reshape the groove over and over again, yet it never sounds out of their control. Ryan Davis and Applescal are kick ass producers.
